Frequently Asked Questions
Sheet metal has its own vocabulary. Here's a plain-English guide to what we build, plus a reminder that we handle residential roofing too.
Do you only do sheet metal, or do you handle roofing too?
Both. Alongside our custom copper and sheet metal fabrication, we also install residential shingle roofs and standing-seam metal roofing, including full replacements, remodels, and new construction. Sheet metal is what we're known for, but roofing is a core part of what we do every week.
What is a chimney cap?
A chimney cap is a custom-fit cover installed on top of your chimney, usually in copper or galvanized metal, that keeps out rain, snow, birds, and debris and helps prevent downdrafts. We fabricate ours to fit your chimney exactly, instead of hiding it under an ugly stock cover.
What's the difference between gutters and downspouts?
Gutters are the channels that run along your roofline and catch rainwater. Downspouts are the vertical pipes attached to them that carry that water down and away from your foundation. We fabricate seamless metal gutters formed to your roofline and pair them with properly sized downspouts, so water actually gets carried away instead of pooling at your foundation.
What are custom awnings?
Awnings are overhangs installed above doors, windows, or porches to provide shade and shed rain. We build standing-seam metal awnings that hold up to real weather and read as an architectural detail, not just a canopy bolted onto the house.
What is flashing, and why does it matter?
Flashing is the thin metal installed at roof valleys, chimneys, and wall joints to direct water away from those seams. It's easy to overlook because you rarely see it once a roof is finished, but it's one of the most important details in keeping water out of your walls and roof.
What other custom metal work do you do?
Beyond chimney caps, gutters, downspouts, awnings, and flashing, we hand-fabricate copper range hoods, cupolas, finials, and other decorative copper accents. If you have a custom detail in mind that you haven't seen elsewhere, ask us, since most of what we make is built to order, not pulled off a shelf.
